Version 3 Build 4

I just uploaded a new version of the V3 beta to http://www.grzsoftware.com/v2dl.php .  If you have V3 already the Check for Updates will find the new version.

This is not a major release, just a handful of changes to polish a few of the rough edges.  The only one you need to know about ahead of time is the icon placement.  Randy mentioned that the icon was in the root of the start menu rather than in the programs directory.  This bug got introduced when I changes installers a few months ago and I didn’t notice.  The new installer will put it it in the right location but you’ll have to uninstall the current version to remove the icon that is there now.  Not a big deal but be sure to do it if the icon placement has been bothering you.

The next big update should add the ability to save MeshCAM files with the geometry, stock, supports, etc. in one file.  This is about 30% done and I don’t think it will be a real difficult one to complete.

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Robert, for the screen area. Neither a big menu nor almost-as-big other thingie like V3. I love it–especially done as an undocumented feature! :)

I have been exploring “Machine geometry plus”. Thank you for that also. When I’m down at the minimum (cutter radius plus stock to leave plus a little–I’m using .050″–for chip clearance) I do need to keep the tolerance down at .0001″ or the whole perimeter doesn’t machine (maybe .0001″ isn’t quite necessary but .001″ doesn’t work) which is OK with me. Given that, it seems to work fine. I’m still playing with tolerance vs. stepover on that account though.

3D roughing with a ball-end mill looks mighty promising–at least viewed with CutViewer. Samplerhino roughed with a .250″ ballmill at .200″ stepdown and .100″ stepover even looks good. Of course, in aluminum or brass I couldn’t use those big of steps in the first place, but .200″ stepdown with .050″ stepover is even more impressive.

  2. Robert,

Another Thank You about the side bar.

The rest looks good but I haven’t had the time to really try to break anything :-)
