4th Axis update
I’ve spent the last two days fixing some 4–axis problems:
-
Added 4th axis option to output each setup as a separate file.
-
Added option to center geometry along axis-of-rotation for 4-axis jobs.
-
New rendering code to draw a 4-axis job
The new rendering code is shown below. A chuck is drawn in grey with each machining angle represented by a yellow line. The chuck is dynamically sized to show the bounding cylinder of the stock. I threw in a red line to show the x-axis which is the center of rotation. It’s not as clear as it could be so I expect to try some other ideas in the next few days. Comments are welcome.

Hi All
I just wanted to point out that in my opinion MeshCAM offers superb value for money.
When I first looked at buying a Taig mill in the UK I spoke with the UK dealer and he warned me that there was no CAM software that could deal with 4 axis at under $4000.
I did quite a bit of research into CAM software and found that MeshCAM was the best for several reasons: -
Excellent value (Industry packages can be $4000 easily)
Simple to use (Not many people have a lot of spare time to learn to use complex packages)
Continuous improvements driven by the customer free (Wow we control the product, but go easy on Robert I’m sure he is doing his best)
I would just like to thank Robert for providing such an excellent product and hope that other people will spread the word to help MeshCAM to go from strength to strength.
Just in case you wondered this post was my own initiative so please accept it in the spirit is it given.
Rolf
