New User Project

I just posed an article written by John Williams to http://www.grzsoftware.com/users/johnw.php . It’s a really good write up about making guitars using a CNC mill with MeshCAM as part of the workflow. Thanks to John for all the hard work.

That is a great writeup! Thank you Robert for posting it, and thank you John for writing it. And my admiration, John, for the great work you’ve done with a homemade MDF (plywood?) router as an extension to your obvious own woodworking skill.

Thanks John, I really appreciate seeing how others approach and solve problems. It’s far too easy to continue a strategy which took weeks to figure out than to keep looking. A case of too damn many trees in the forest
One comment, the back of the neck looks like too much hand scraping and sanding is left in the pictures. I (and Randy) have been known to use insanely very fine step overs for finishing and maybe a smaller ball bit. I’d rather the machine do its best at the expense of a few extra hours, and for the most part it can do a better job.

Jeff, actually for a convex surface like John’s neck you want the largest ball you can use. A large ratio of ball diameter to stepover will give the shallowest scallops. I did appreciate Jeff’s “insanely fine” comment, though I might have prefered “crazy fine” myself.
