Updated Progress Bars

March 19, 2008 · Filed Under MeshCAM Development

I finally got time to finish the progress bars in the parallel finishing toolpath code.  It’s pretty good and it should be generic and it’s multicore-friendly so I can transfer the code to other parts of the code as they are converted to support multiple cores.  It’s also helped me find some areas of opportunity for further optimization since the progress bars are updated to show what step is being executed at a given instant.

You can download it at http://www.grzsoftware.com/files/MeshCAM2-6868.exe

I think this can be considered a release candidate for the main download page pending feedback from people who try it here so I am very interested in feedback.

Robert, would you please fix the next version of the MeshCAM installer so it puts MeshCAM in the programs menu rather than the start menu directly? TIA.

    Robert,

So far good but the stock dialog still shows a incorrect X dimension on opening. Entering an offset produces the right number.

Randys suggestion is good, one further enhancement would be to have the install folder name include the build number. Avoiding the possibility of over writing a old working version with a new bug infested one :-) It would also preserve the old tool file and custom posts.

I’ve gotten a crash a couple of times. I think it has something to do with my old tool.txt. I’m going to experiment a little more and try to narrow it down. I’ve been using a large image with a small tool and small stepover with a tolerence of 0.0005″. It seems if I add a tool with the same parameters as the old tool I don’t have the crash. I’ll keep you posted.

    Bob,

Are you using the basic version or the Art one? Using the basic version with numbers similar to yours and my antique tool files everything sees OK. Granted only 2 files cut so far.

    Jeff,

    I’m using the Art version.

    Bob,

Sorry I can’t help. I use the art version for play but my clients are accustomed to better image renders than the art side will create. The renders are quite good enough for me but they tend to be be hard to please. Trying to save as a stl. and rendering it rhino still does not work well enough for for me. Given enough time either I’ll get smarter or Robert will make it better. I suspect he is killing other larger dragons at the moment.

Thanks for the praise, MC made most of my better work possible, a fine tool versus a sledge hammer. I happy using either but do have a preference for elegance when given a choice.

Just compared one of my old jobs from V6738 to V6868 and there is a lot more retracts in the roughing and waterline cuts with 6868, however the parallel finishing has very few, much less than in V6838.
Not sure it’s relevent anymore with you finding the bugs mentioned after this update though.

Sorry that should have been 6738 at the end.
