One More Release
March 29, 2008 · Filed Under MeshCAM Development
I just uploaded another to- http://www.grzsoftware.com/files/MeshCAM2-6897.exe
It fixes the following items:
1) Fixed error where settings were not saved on exit. Turned out to be an installer problem.
2) Tool list is now saved after any change or addition to the list (Randy G-G).
3) Hopefully resolved an assertion error in cl.cpp that could occasionally occur. (Jeff D.)
Let me know if it works better.

Er, Robert, I don’t know quite how to tell you, but my registration info still isn’t being saved by 6897…
Randy
Ditto, sorry.
Rich.
Seems to be working for me.
I only registered once and I am able to generate toolpaths for both images and STL’s.
Double checked my version and it is 6897.

Yup, can confirm that reg details do not persist after closing.
I just loaded a clean XP image in VMWare and it seems to save everything OK for me.
1) Are you exiting the program normally or shutting it down via task manager or something similar?
2) Did you uninstall the old versions before installing the new versions?
3) Are you running as an admin or a limited user?
Robert, XP Pro SP2, exiting program normally, uninstalled all old versions and confirmed directories were deleted, admin account.
6897 still says “Registration code validted” when I fill in my info but next time I start the program it gives the unregistered dialog.
I don’t know if it is significant that the first-time-only popup of the Help/Changes now comes up every time I start MC also.
Randy
Robert,
So I looked in the registry and under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/MenuOrder/StartMenu, there were entries for MeshCAM and MeshCAM2, besides the current one under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/MenuOrder/StartMenu/Programs.
I deleted those two keys and now MC accepted my registration. I don’t know if that is a direct cause-and-effect, but maybe the installer needs to look for those obsolete keys and purge them if present.
Randy
Robert,
I think I have stumbled across a bug in 6895. I was machining and didn’t get the 6898 in use yet but this is how it goes. I built a two sided part. I went to run using Mach3 and machined first side both rough and parallel finish. Worked fine. Then I flipped it over and started side two when I noticed it looked funny. Then it dawned on me, I’m slow you know, that the part is upside down rotated 180 about the z axis? I think that it is salvageable but I’m stuck now. I know that I should have run a preview package but that’s next months money…
I questioned my setup but the 0,0,0 shows that it was spun that way. Weird anyway
Lyle
Randy- I know it’s somehow related to that but I haven’t been able to get to the bottom of it yet. That info should help quite a bit.
Lyle- The stock should be flipped 180 around the X axis. Since rotating around the z wouldn’t flip it I assume that was a typo. How did you flip it?
Robert
Robert,
Yes, I rotated about the x axis but the code had spun it around the z also. It even shows up in the Mach3 toolpath window with the top correct and the bottom spun. The 0,0,0 is is the same place but the part is spun. It machined the top in the correct orientation but the bottom is spun about the Z. I just rebuilt the part in 6897 and will go out to see if the path shows up the same way or not and will let you know.
Lyle
I sometimes a little info can help when your dugging. I never installed the version befor this because I read the posts about not saving version information if that is any help
Bob Stack
Robert,
Sorry to report, it is still the same. Top good, bottom spun.
Lyle
Thanks Bob - that helps.
Lyle-
I’ll take a look and fix it in the next release if I can duplicate it.
Robert,
I have the advantage of having a ratty old XP installation held together with bits of old gum and baling wire and dust bunnies lurking in the corners, so I can notice things that a minty fresh install will not reveal.
I am running toolpaths now and noticed that parallel finishing reverts to Y only, even if I have just run an X-Y toolpath in the same session.
Randy
Robert,
Inspired by Randys registry hacking I to had a go despite my better judgement.
I couldn’t find the keys he mentioned but I did find two others and an un-set default in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MeshCam2 ( I store past and current versions in a MeshCam2 folder, never can tell when an old version will work better for a particular job)
A cautious renaming to MeshCam-xxx and the registration is saved, both for 6897 and all earlier versions. Not really sure what I’m doing but a happy camper never the less. Maybe this info will help.
Jeff
Robert,
Forgotten detail, the keys found referred to 6895.
Jeff
Robert,
I’m sorry, I said I was slow. I just realized that yesterday I had rotated my chuck on the bed, Duh! The software is smarter than I am for sure. No bug. Back in business. Sorry to clog the blog.
Lyle
AH- Now I think I’ve got it between the infor from Jeff and Randy. The next installer release will restore registry sanity.
-Robert
Robert,
Very good news, I have to question my sanity (and back up everything to really anal limits) before I’ll even think about touching the registry. I’m glad my desperation in this case helped, and that the stupid box still works. Another XP Pro box which has seen far too many changes to be close to stable.
