Machining Die Casting Molds with MeshCAM

We were recently contact by Langdon from Whitehead Die Casting. He was evaluating MeshCAM and told me that he was going to try machining some die casting molds using MeshCAM. Although MeshCAM was never designed with this type of job in mind, we spoke about the requirements and it seemed like everything would work well.

Initial testing was done in aluminum to verify the accuracy and quality of toolpaths. When everyting passed inspection the final molds were machined from H-13 tool steel. Using stock of this value demonstrates some real faith in the output from MeshCAM.

The molds were machined, measured, and tested with great results. Below are a few images of the mold and the cast parts.
