What is "Feed rate"

A feed rate is a parameter of a CNC toolpath that determines the speed at which a cutting tool moves along the surface of the workpiece. It is usually defined as the distance traveled by the cutting tool in a minute, typically mm/min or inches/min.

The feed rate is an important factor in determining the quality and efficiency of the machining process. If the feed rate is too high, the cutting tool may generate excessive heat, leading to tool wear or damage, while a feed rate that is too slow can result in longer machining times and reduced productivity.

The optimal feed rate depends on several factors, including the type of material being machined, the hardness of the workpiece, the type of cutting tool being used, and the desired surface finish.
